Try letting the battery run down completely. When it's dead, connect it to the power and leave it turned off. Let it charge completely. Then see if it's working again.

In case others experience the same symptoms, this problem was fixed by reconfiguring my dsl modem, a Westell 6100, to Bridge mode, necessary when connecting it to a wifi router.
