dvd driver

I'm trying to help an older friend of mine with her computer (toshiba satellite U305-S5107) she got the computer from her daughter. Of course there were never any back ups made and has no softwere.  There is no dvd driver in the device manager and I can't get one to load from the website. I was hopeing to reinstall the OS (windows vista) and just start over but how can I do that without the dvd driver or usb on the bios.

Two things you need to know about the driver for the optical disc drive.

1. It is native to Windows.

2. It is also available in the BIOS. So you can boot from that drive without Windows running.

That computer apparently came with a set of recovery discs. If they are gone, you can obtain them from Toshiba. They will enable you to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents.

   Order Toshiba Recovery Media

These instructions should apply.
