Restarting Laptop Satellite A215

When working with my laptop,A215-S7411, and click "start", the shut down menu shows up. Then when I click "restart", it neither "restart" or "shut down" !! I have then to shut it down and restart it manually.

Windows Vista Home Premium is the OS.

Thanks for any help with this problem.

Satellite A215-S7411

Let's make some experiments. What happens when you restart immediately after booting these two ways?

1. Into Safe Mode.

Start your computer in safe mode

2. Normally into another account. Create one if necessary.

   Create a user account

BTW, if you still have only 1 GB of memory in that computer, it must run like a snail. Windows Vista cannot operate properly with less than 2 GB.

Re: Restarting Laptop Satellite A215

Thank you so much for your help,I did it successfully but with the recovery media provided with the laptop when I first purchased it. Following your advice I've decided to upgrade to 2 GB memory or more and would appreciate you advise me about the compatible memory to my laptop since I'm living now in Cairo Egypt. Thanks again.

Sounds like you have restored the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media. So you did that instead of making the two experiments I proposed? Please explain.

If so, that's good.

You can install a total of 4 GB in that computer. But with 32-bit Windows, you'll see only a bit over 3 GB maximum. Each slot may have a 0.5 GB module now. I suggest that you simply replace one of those with a 2 GB module. (If one slot is empty, put it there.)

Best to use either memory from Toshiba or the best that Kingston makes.

   Toshiba PA3513U-1M2G

   Kingston KTT667D2/2G

See the section Adding memory (optional), which begins on p. 44 of the User's Manual. (This Satellite Pro manual apparently applies to your Satellite model as well.)
