Driver IRQL not less or equal

Hi,

I just purchased a new Toshiba S850 online.  I've only had it a couple days and it has crashed a couple times with the error coming up Driver IRQL not less or equal, and then it restarts.  Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers,

James

Bug Check 0xD1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

Which S850? See the label on the bottom.

Please attach the corresponding *.dmp files from the C:\Windows\Minidump folder.

Re: Driver IRQL not less or equal

I've had experiences when buying new computers where it needed to be reinstalled, one of which was one day after use. Those OEM's, & not limited to any single one, mass produce computers & doesn't really take the time to fully diagnose each one.

Also, there's been many Windows 7 computers upgraded to Windows 8 at the place of sale, Best Buy being one of them. They get whatever media required from the OEM to do so, this was the same when Windows 7 was released (this was the one that required reinstall after a day). Most, if not all computers on the shelves that had Windows Vista installed (which wouldn't sell, probably even at reduced prices) were upgraded to Windows 7. This, I know, because when booting into the recovery partition, the Vista splash screen, not the Windows 7 one, shows to this day, even after restoring with the recovery DVD's that I created.

My point being, this is all rushed & the configuration isn't being tested out. If it boots successfully, it's OK. The OEM's provides the new manuals & any new packaging if needed, as well as the new COA (sticker on computer).

First, I burn the recovery DVD's, just in case, then I go through the recovery process, which for some brands takes 20 to 30 minutes, some over an hour. Anyway, everytime that I reinstalled, the computer ran better than out of the box.

That would be my first suggestion to you. However, as I pointed out, go ahead & create your recovery DVD set (or Flash drive installer, if allowed) first, or at least make a Full Disk Image of what you have. Macrium Reflect is a good free choice if you don't already have a backup app, also if the hard drive is WD or Seagate, they have a modified version of Acronis True Image to use on these drives. Those doesn't update as often as Macrium & requires less CD's to be burned.

However, when Macrium Reflect does update, there's often new features, so it's usually good to update & burn a new CD, the old doesn't work with the new.

I'd say that unless there's a true hardware issue to be addressed, the reinstall/recovery process usually fixes things. And that the first thing that Customer Support is going to ask, did you try recovery? So you may as well proceed with that.

If you're still having issues, you're under warranty, & you may have further rights through the retailer who sold it (they should swap it for one like it). If you bought with a credit card or used PayPal to conduct the transaction, you have further rights, don't waste time filing for protection if the OEM or retailer is giving you the runaround. However, them asking you to reinstall isn't giving you the runaround, you are required to work with the OEM/retailer in good faith.

Should you require further assistance, feel free to post back.

Best of Luck,

Cat

Please give us the part number, James. It looks something like PSKACU-04201Q.

Something wrong with that DMP file. It won't open in either of my tools. Give me a couple more.

PSKFWU-040015 is the part number.

Attached a couple more files... Hopefully they work.

Re: Driver IRQL not less or equal

Satellite S850 (PSKFWU-040015)

Similar to this one.

Satellite S855-S5382 (PSKFWU-002002)

Drivers are here.

Try reinstalling the Atheros wireless driver. If that doesn't fix things, maybe the card has malfunctioned.

Two of your dmp files are the same file. The other three produce these.
