This laptop is having a problem in which Windows Update tries to download 31 updates and fails with zero bytes downloaded and error 80072EE2. It tries to download these updates daily and fails with the same error. When I look at the Update statuses, it shows these updates as being successful over and over.
I have looked through the ZoneAlarm firewall settings and Windows Update is open. Spybot seems to be ok, and I still receive the error when S&D is not running. MalwareBytes is not running at the time either. Symantec Anti-Virus is running but should not be stopping the download.
Anybody have any ideas what the problem might be?

Maybe this helps.
MalwareBytes .. Symantec Anti-Virus
Be careful not to have more than one AV program resident in memory at the same time. They will conflict.

Hi Jerry,
Thanks for the info and the link to the Windows error page. That page pointed me to the Windows FixIt utility page and after downloading and running FixIt under the Administrator login, I was able to download the updates and am now all set.
One note:
The only anti-virus installed is Symantec: MalwareBytes and SpyBot are anti-malware and are set to run only when requested. They typically don't conflict with anti-virus programs. The ZoneAlarm Firewall has an anti-virus utility available but that is not installed, and the Windows Update entries in the Firewall settings are "Allowed". I'm not sure what the problem was since the FixIt utility did not report it's findings.
Again, thanks for the help,
Bob.
