I uninstalled my built in webcam from device manager. Now I'd like to reinstall it, but I cannot find the 'imaging' section n device manager. I tried searching 'web camera' from the start menu, but it said 'web camera initialzation failed'
My laptop c855-1gx, window 7.

I cannot find the 'imaging' section n device manager.
That often means the device has failed.
Essentially the same as this model.
Satellite C855-1ME (PSKC8E-0G0005EN)
..whose downloads are here.
Can't hurt to try reinstalling the driver.

Will system recoveries affect my files, downloaded programmes?
Absolutely! The disk will be wiped clean in the process. You'd need to back up your important data files and later reinstall added applications.
You could create a current image of the disk and restore it later if necessary. That would put you right back where you are. But in the process, you would discover whether the camera itself is malfunctioning.

I haven't done the disk clean yet. Just wanted to let you know that I found this programme on my computer: Web Camera application. When I click on it, it says: Web camera intialization failed. I have the option to uninstall it.

You can try other things if you like. Can't hurt, since the camera doesn't work anyway.
I believe the program I gave you is the right one to install the driver.

Did you uninstall your webcam from the device manager also?
On items such as Web Camera, Video, NIC cards should not be deleted via the Device Manager, because there is usually software associated with them, making it more difficult to troubleshoot and repair.
You actually have 2 + programs that work with the web cam.
1. Toshiba Face Recognition
2. Toshiba Web Camera Application
3. Programs such as: Skype, FACEFLOW and so on.
In your All Programs >TOSHIBA > Support & Recovery > PC Diagnostic Tools
Run this to determine what maybe wrong.
And you can RUN
All Programs > TOSHIBA > Support & Recovery > Toshiba Application Installer
The Toshiba Application Installer will reinstall applications and drivers
