How To: Perform a system restore in Windows 7

Note: For information on System Restore in Windows 8, click here.

System Restore uses restore points to return your computer to an earlier point in time without affecting your personal files.

  • Restore points are created automatically every week, and just before significant system events, such as the installation of a program or device driver.
  • You can also create a restore point manually.
  • Additionally, every time you use System Restore, a restore point is created before proceeding, so you can undo the changes if they don't fix your problem.

In the following video you will learn how to manually create a restore point, perform a System Restore and undo the System Restore if it doesn’t help.
