"Unsupported Video Format" when connect TV to PC

[ Edited ]

I have the Toshiba REGZA 42VL863 and am trying to connect it to my PC in the lounge. I connected it via the VGA (D-Sub) inputs at the rear of the TV & connected to my PC and I get the error message "Unsupported Video Signal" showing on a black screen.

As my PC has both VGA & DVI inputs, I connected my monitor to it and straight away the TV began working.

I then checked that the settings were set at 1024 x 768 and all was fine, however upon then disconnecting my PC monitor, the Toshiba reverted back to "Unsupported Video Signal" (black screen) I plugged the monitor back in and it worked again.

Can anyone offer advices as I do not really want to have the monitor connected at all times, just so that I can run my PC on my Television.

Thanks in advance
