laptop icons hidden

We purchased a C650D laptop a few weeks ago, and the preloaded icons that always appear when you sign in are gone.  These are the ones that always popped up whenever the cursor went over them on the homepage.  It was a group of maybe 4 or 5...and in the group was an icon for the webcam.

Anyway, these icons were starting to bug me, so I right clicked on them and, I dunno, hid them, exited them...something to that effect.  Now I don't know where on earth they are to get them back.  My 11 year old is driving me nuts.  "OMG MOM, you don't know where you put them??"  HELP

I'm guessing right about now, that finding and putting them back on the screen is something so simple a monkey could have thought of it.  Oh well.  Hmmmm...I feel like having a banana right about now.  LOL

Beverley, try right-clicking on the desktop, point to View, and click on Show desktop icons.

Re: laptop icons hidden

Hi Jer

It's already checked off.   Oh argh..where on earth are those blasted icons hiding.  You do know which ones I'm talking about, right?  I have all the regular icons on there...you know..MY folder, the download folder, the toshiba link..that type thing.  It's just those other blasted ones that were already loader on the laptop when we got it.  Wish I could remember what those icons were, too.  I just remember that one of the them was a pic of a camera (webcam) no doubt.  The other ones....not a clue.  You could move them around on the page and stick them wherever you wanted...I just never wanted them around.  They would always seem to be blocking something that I was doing.  Moved the cursor here..there they were..moved the cursor there...there they were again..aaahhh.  On my laptop they were stacked one on top of the other in a vertical column...if that helps any.

Right-click on the desktop again, Beverley, click Personalize, and then click Change desktop icons at the upper left.

Re: laptop icons hidden

Then what? Put back the missing icons.

If those are not the icons that are missing, tell us much more about them. What are they for? Are the applications involved on the Start menu?

Perhaps you have logged into another account?

Re: laptop icons hidden

All the icons that are displayed on your little picture there are all on the desktop already.  I'm guessing you don't have any idea about the icons that I was explaining to you earlier.

Black and white in a vertical column

Has the webcam icon in said column..along with a couple others I don't remember

Column can be moved around to any area of the screen that you want

Disappears when the cursor is taken off of it

Appears when cursor is moved over the area where they are..usually a corner

These icons came preloaded in the laptop when I got it

You're right, Bev. I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about. Apparently some Toshiba stuff. I'm a Windows specialist (without a Toshiba laptop).

Somebody else here needs to jump in to help.

Sorry about the misunderstanding.

Re: laptop icons hidden

Go to Start/All Programs/Toshiba/Utitlities/Web Camera Application and Voila!! Point your mouse toward the left upper screen and all will reappear!

Re: laptop icons hidden

OMG   Thank you.  Without making this blasted column disappear again, how do I make it disappear when I move the cursor off of it, and appear when cursor is on.  If I right click the column auto hide and auto run are both checked off.  Should I uncheck something

Re: laptop icons hidden

Never mind...they're gone.  I guess they just stayed on for a little longer when I put them back.  They are back to normal again.  Cursor on the corner, icons pop up, cursor moved icons gone.

Thank you thank you.  Have a great day

Re: laptop icons hidden

Move your cursor to get it to appear, then right click in a clear area of the box, click auto hide and move cursor off to a blank spot on the desktop and left click it.  Do NOT click "Close" in the box.  Now your webcam controls will automatically appear when you put the cursor to the upper left side of the screen and when you remove the cursor the webcam controls will disappear again.

And then show that kid of yours what Mom can do!:smileyhappy:

Re: laptop icons hidden

Like I said earlier C.B. you are a lifesaver.  Thanx again.  Oh...I think that's what I did in the first place to get rid of those icons.  I clicked close.  Oooopps.
