Hello. I am using a Satellite L635-10J laptop but its display resolution default is 1024 x 768 which is not a good resolution for an LCD screen. I want to change to a higher resolution but the highest is only the default resolution which is 1024 x 768. What do you think is the problem? I encounter this problem after reformatting my laptop.

Satellite L635-10J (PSK04E-02H00QAR)
the highest is only the default resolution which is 1024 x 768.
According to its spec above the native resolution of that model is 1,366 x 768.
The native resolution of an LCD screen is always best.

I encounter this problem after reformatting my laptop.
Did you restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media? That way all the drivers are properly installed.

Have no idea what you mean by those words. I can't fathom what you're talking about.
I suppose you must have installed a retail version of Windows, which would have wiped out the recovery partition.
See the section System Recovery Options and Restoring the preinstalled Software, which begins on p. 1-12 of the User's Manual (attached).
If you failed to burn the recovery discs, obtain them from Toshiba.

I'm confused. I tried what is said in the manual on restoring the pre-installed software from the recovery hard disk drive. It said to press F8 once the laptop is turn on. When I tried pressing F8 for a few seconds there was a sound heard but the advanced boot options menu won't display.

Probably you should obtain the recovery discs from Toshiba.
If they don't work either, the problem is due to hardware.

Do you think it could be the video card?
