Connect to Samsung LCD tv

I have a satellite l455-s5975 laptop that I am trying to connect to my Samsung LCD TV through an HDMI port. I am using an hdmi to dvi cord, The dvi end is attached to a dvi to 15 pin port adapter which is plugged into the 15 pin port on the laptop. The tv says there is no signal. What am I doing wrong? Do I need a hdmi converter box? Any Suggestions?

Re: Connect to Samsung LCD tv

It sounds like you're trying to connect the VGA (analog only) port of the laptop to the HDMI (digital only) port of the TV.  This won't work.  There are expensive adapters that will make it work, but I'm assuming your TV probably has a VGA port also, so it would just make more sense to hook the laptop up to the TV's VGA port.

Re: Connect to Samsung LCD tv

Your computer comes with a built-in display, but you can also
connect the following types of external display devices to the video
ports described below:
❖ An HDMI™-compatible television or VCR/DVD player via
the HDMI Out port*
❖ An external monitor or projector via the RGB (monitor) port

Connecting the display device

If you are connecting a television or other video display device to
the computer’s HDMI™ Out port, refer to “Connecting an
HDMI™-compatible television or VCR/DVD player” on page 77.
Selecting video cables
To connect a device to the HDMI™ Out port, you must purchase an
HDMI cable.

Connecting an HDMI™-compatible television or VCR/DVD
player
To connect an HDMI™-compatible television or VCR/DVD player
to the computer:
❖ Connect one end of an HDMI cable (not included with your
computer) to the HDMI Out port on the side of your computer,
and then connect the other end of the cable to your television.
Refer to the manual that came with the television for more
information.
Your computer will automatically detect the external display
device.

Connecting an external monitor or projector
You can easily attach an external monitor or projector to your
computer if you need a larger screen. To do this:
1 Read the directions that came with the monitor to see if you
first need to install new software.
2 Connect the monitor’s video cable to the RGB (monitor) port
on the side of the computer.
3 Connect the device’s power cable to a live electrical outlet.
4 Turn on the external device.
Your computer will automatically detect the external display
device.

In the future you can change the display settings by pressing Fn+F5,
or by configuring the display properties settings.

Directing the display output when you turn on the computer
Once you have connected an external display device, you can
choose to use the internal display only, the external device only, or
both simultaneously.
Some modes are only available with the appropriate device attached
and turned on.

The quickest way to change the display output settings is to use the
display hot key (Fn + F5):
1 While holding down Fn, press F5 repeatedly, pausing between
each press, until the setting you want takes effect.
This hot key cycles through the settings in the following order:
❖ Built-in display only
❖ Built-in display and external monitor simultaneously
❖ External monitor only
❖ TV (or other external video device) only
❖ External monitor and TV simultaneously
❖ Built-in display and TV (or other external video device)
simultaneously
❖ Built-in display and external monitor (extended desktop)
❖ Built-in display and TV (extended desktop)
❖ External monitor and TV (extended desktop)
❖ Swap-Switch primary display between internal display
and external monitor when using extended desktop
(Sample Image) Display options window
2 Release the Fn key.

Adjusting the quality of the external display
To obtain the best picture quality from your television (or other
video display device), you may need to adjust the video settings.
See the video device documentation for additional configuration
steps.

Cheers...

Re: Connect to Samsung LCD tv

What is the exact model number of your Samsung... I can determine which type of VGA to DVI cable you need if I had this info.
