Satellite with windows 7 wont boot up.

My Satellite laptop with windows 7 boots up until the icons show up on the desktop. then the mouse freezes and all keys are dead. The only way to make it live again is to power down and bring up in safe mode where it seems to work ok.

I think my grandkids might have downloaded some games that are hanging it up, but when i try to delete these games in safe mode, I get the message. " the windows installer service could no be accessed. this can occur if the windows installer is not correctly installed."

is there any way to download and install the windows installer on this computer?

I have restored back to an older date with the same results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Which computer, Dave? There is a label on the bottom.

The Windows Installer Service is not started (and will not run) in Safe Mode.

Can you start by booting clean? Make these changes while in Safe Mode.

   1. Open the System Configuration utility (msconfig.exe).

   2. On the General tab, click Selective startup and clear the Load startup items check box.

   3. On the Services tab, click the Hide all Microsoft services check box and click Disable all.

   4. OK out and restart the computer.
