Need Recovery Disk for A15-S127

Son brought home trusty old Satellite home from college but having trouble booting.... system is asking for recovery disk to repair a file. Unfortunately the recovery disk did not make it home with the computer.  Suggestions?  Any help appreciated!

The recovery disk is useless for repairing a Windows installation.  It is useful only for returning it to factory 'out-of-the-box' condition.

Jerry Lippey, the resident Windows guru, may have suggestions for you, if you post the exact message you are getting.  Don't paraphrase it, copy it EXACTLY.

For future reference, and for anyone else reading this, you should be using a backup program like Acronis TrueImage on a regular basis for exactly this type of problem.  Windows is a very fragile operating system, and you need to guard against its failure in any way possible.  Recovery disks aren't one of these methods.  You can either buy a commercial version, or, as cee_64 has noted, several hard drive manufacturers make a free version available for use with their drives.

And tell your son to put the Recovery Disks in the laptop bag so they are ALWAYS available.

If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

Re: Need Recovery Disk for A15-S127

Thanks for your reply Rincewind.  Here is the error verbatim.......

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:  \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows Setup using the original Setup CD-ROM.

Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.

FYI, I am okay with having to flatten and rebuild the image back to factory install if that is what it takes.  I dont have copy of XP or the old drivers which is why I was hoping for a recovery disk.

Thanks again in advance for the suggestions/help..........
