System Recovery and Recovery Media

Hi

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6864, model PSAGCU-02Q015 and when i go to turn on my laptop, it shows the Toshiba screen at the bottom where you can press F2 or F12 for the Boot Manager, but after that it goes to a blank screen with a blinking cursor.  After a few minutes a double upside down L appears infront of the cursor.  It looks kinda like a top right corner of a double picture frame.  I have turned it off and turned it back on and this blank screen is all i get.  It wont even go far enough for me to try a system restore or factore restore.  Any ideas?
