Can't start up? Startup Repair? HELP!

Hey! Everytime I try and start up my computer, it loads a screen that says "startup repair is trying to fix the problems automatically" and it has a loading bar. At the end it always says "windows cannot repair this computer automatically" and it just gives me the choice to restart or shutdown :smileysad: happens every time. Can anyone help me please? I dont have a recovery disk..i dont care if it deletes everything I just want it to work!
My model # is PSAFGU-020002

Satellite A215-S7422 (PSAFGU-020002)

We can try to resurrect Windows as follows.

Download and burn this CD so you can reach the recovery environment.

Windows Vista Recovery Environment ISO X86 version (32 bit)

Then try a System Restore.

What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

In the meantime, order the recovery discs from Toshiba. Even if the above works, you'll need them sooner or later.

   Order Toshiba Recovery Media

Re: Can't start up? Startup Repair? HELP!

I got to that screen when I clicked "view advanced options for recovery and support" When I click system restore, it says "system restore did not complete successfully...system restore failed due to an unspecified error. Data error (cyclic redudancy check). (0x80070017)

There were a bunch of different restore points, though. Should I keep trying different ones?

OK, so I've tried them all, and all say that same message that I wrote in my previous post :smileysad: is there anything else I can try? I definitely will be buying that for the future, but I would like to try and fix it now :-/

Re: Can't start up? Startup Repair? HELP!

At the command prompt, enter this.

   chkdsk c: /r

If Windows won't boot after that, try Startup Repair a couple of times.

Ok, I am trying that. I started it last night and its been stuck on 23% checking 90000 files. I let it run over night..still the same thing. I guess ill let it run while I'm at work. Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Can't start up? Startup Repair? HELP!

If it's not finished, shut the computer down by holding the power button.

Then start run the same command again.

   chkdsk c: /r

If the same thing happens, enter this at the command prompt.

   bootrec /RebuildBcd

Run Startup Repair in between these other things. Sometimes it works later.

Let us know what happens.

After I wrote the first prompt and it finally finished, I restarted it and it now has a black screen that says "SMART Failure predicted on Hard Disk 4: Hitachi (S1)...press F1 to continue
then it took me back to that same Startup Repair screen and it couldnt fix it. should I try that other prompt?

SMART Failure predicted on Hard Disk 4: Hitachi (S1)...

That pretty much tells us that the hard disk is failing.

Maybe it's time for a new computer?
