L655 HDD Partition

My Satellite L655 has a 11.72GB primary partition at the end of the HDD with no label. This is in addition to the 1.46GB recovery partition that is at the beginning of the disk.  Does anyone know what that partition is for and if it can be deleted and the space reused?

Re: L655 HDD Partition

The small partition is for the recovery environment. When it's marked Active, it contains the boot files as well.

The one you're looking at contains the recovery image itself. It's used both for burning recovery discs and for recovering directly from that partition.

I understand this applies approximately to more recent machines.

Re: L655 HDD Partition

Thanks Jerry.

The 1.46GB partition at the start of the disk is labeled as the Recovery Partition and Active.  The 11.72GB partition at the end of the disk is only marked as a Primary Partition, on other ID.  So you're saying the actual Recovery Disk images are located in that 1.72GB partition and must be kept intact.

That's the one that contains the recovery utilities and the boot files. It does not have the recovery image itself.

See the section Recovering the Internal Storage Drive, which begins on p. 59 of the User's Guide.

Once you have burned recovery discs (and made copies) you don't lose much by removing that partition.
