Function Key Icons: What do they mean?

Hi!

I'm trying to set up an old hand-me-down Toshiba Satellite 2545XCDT to run my old MS-DOS software.

So far I've not been able to find a manual for it so I feel like I'm fumbling in the dark.

I'd be grateful if someone could interpret for me the meanings of the symbols on the function keys and tell me what they  do:

  • F1: A padlock
  • F2: A water faucet
  • F3: A toaster with a Poptart poking out of the slot
  • F4: A loudspeaker
  • F5: A laptop/a monitor screen outline (I can guess that this switches to an external monitor)
  • F10: A square containg 4 tiny arrows, each one pointing to a different side
  • F11: A square containing  3 columns of 10 tiny squares and a horizontal bar in the bottom left corner
  • F12: A square containg two arrows, one pointing up, the other pointing down

Satellite 2545XCDT

Lots of stuff here, Will.

   User's Guide

I notice these there.

To turn the cursor control overlay on and off, press  Fn and F10 simultaneously. The cursor control light on the keyboard indicator panel glows when the cursor control overlay is on.

To turn the numeric overlay on and off, press Fn and F11 simultaneously. The numeric mode light on the keyboard indicator panel glows when the numeric overlay is on.

I'm guessing at these using Google.

F1 Locks the keyboard and turns the backlight on/off. If a password is configured, you probably need it.

F2 Cycles through some power-level modes.

F3 Has something to do with powering up. Maybe resume. Experiment.

F4 As you say, it's volume. May affect just the beep.

F5 Certainly to do with an external monitor.
