Latest Bios for Satellite A105-S2141

[ Edited ]

I just saw the tech bulletin BIOS update for Satellite A100/A105, Satellite M110/M115, and Tecra A7 regarding battery not charging properly.  This is exactly what's happening on my son's laptop.  The charger works fine for AC power and the battery shows 100% charged but when AC power is unplugged, he gets about 3 min's battery time and then gets a low battery warning.  I had the battery checked by a local PC repair shop and it's supposedly good.  I found out about the BIOS update that may fix the issue from the repair guy so I thought I'd give it a try before buying a new battery.  I want to make sure I get the correct BIOS update before I attempt this.  Here's current model info:

Satellite A105-S2141

Model Number:  PSAA5U-01P00P

Current BIOS:  v1.10

SMBIOS:  v2.31

Windows XP, Home Edition SP3

The BIOS Downloads page shows the current BIOS as ACPI Flash Bios version 5.60 for Satellite A100 (PSAA5U/PSAAKU), 10/10/2008.  Is this the file I want even though it does not specifically mention the A105?  Also, is v5.60 a cumulative update?  Does this version incorporate changes from previous versions 5.00, 5.30, 5.40, and 5.50?  I've also seen older versions like 1.30 and 1.90.  Seems like a big leap from 1.10 to 5.60 but I understand that might be correct.  Of course Toshiba is no help so I thought I'd ask here before I attempt an update that might hose the laptop.  Thanks in advance for your help.

The correct BIOS for the A105-S2141 is:

ACPI Flash BIOS version 5.60 for Satellite A100 (PSAA5U/PSAAKU)
http://df.toshiba.com/sa100a5v560.exe

You can verify this by looking at the list of applicable models.

Thank you very much for the quick reply.  I'll download and install this version.

A couple of other questions popped up.  Given there is no floppy drive, I plan to use the bootable CD-ROM method to install the update.  This seems safer than trying to install from within Windows.  Yes/No?  Also, IF something does happen to go wrong I'm guessing there is no way to revert back to v1.10 to recover the laptop?  Finally, other than all the tips and warnings in the Installation documentation, are there any other real-life hints for ensuring a smooth update?  Thanks again.
