How do I disable auto-resume when I open the lid?

When my computer is in sleep mode and I open the lid, my computer wakes up automatically. I would like to disable this feature but instead manually press the power button for the computer to wake up.

Go to Control Panel/Power Options and click on "Choose what the Power Button does" in the left pane and make your selections. Be sure and click on "Save Changes" before you close.

Re: How do I disable auto-resume when I open the lid?

Thanks for your reply but this is not what I wanted. In Power Options I can only choose what the power button does only when the computer is awake. However, what I want is whilst the computer is in sleep mode, the computer resumes only when I press the power button and not when I open the lid.

In Power Options, for "Closing Lid", select "Do Nothing". Then, select for "Power Button", "Sleep".  Then, put it to sleep by pressing the Power Button or by FN+F3. Then, wake it up by pressing the Power Button as you desire. It will NOT wake up just by raising the lid.

But, unfortunately, my laptop DOES wake up when I raise the lid.

When I follow my instructions on my 3 Toshiba's, they do NOT wake up when raising the lid so I don't know of anything else to suggest to you.

Re: How do I disable auto-resume when I open the lid?

[ Edited ]

I just tried it on a A215-S4817 that I have here, and it worked no problem.

If you REALLY want to disable it, you can remove the magnet in the display bezel.  It is just to the left of the Webcam if you have one.  Just remove the 4 or 6 screws(whichever model you have) that hold the bezel in place, slowly pry it away, and remove the magnet.  The down side to this is that it will no longer hibernate when you close the screen.  You would HAVE to remember to tell it to hibernate.

Re: How do I disable auto-resume when I open the lid?

No problem!

On almost all of the Toshiba laptops I have worked on, you can find the placement of the magnet by running a screwdriver along the top edge of the bezel until you feel the magnet pull it in.  Glad it helped.
