x775 with 1866mhz ram?!

I've currently tried two seperate manufacture's rams @ 1866mhz. Neither runs at that speed and instead clocks at 7-7-9-20-1t. I have verified in cpu-z that the JEDEC of the ram is capable of 1866 at rated timings.

With the hm65 and 2nd gen i7 in this laptop there is no reason that these shouldnt run at the said timings and frequency. This makes me believe it is a limitation to the bios.

Has anyone has any success with these frequency of ram?

If not, I am requesting a bios update from Toshiba that allows these speeds. Thank you!

Intel's specs for the 2630QM processor states 1066/1333 DDR3 memory.  This is your limitation with the processor in your system

Re: x775 with 1866mhz ram?!

Ive actually replaced the processor with a i7 2820qm (which would mean it should downclock to 1600 as per that site). I don't understand though because that site states clearly that no i7 2nd gen is capable of 1866 which i know to be very false from experience. Am I out of my mind lol?

Re: x775 with 1866mhz ram?!

Intel's information is not always set in stone. I have proven that certain CPU's work with chipsets that Intel does not list as compatible. Also, my L655 has a P6100 processor, which states 800/1066Mhz RAM, but I am running 1333Mhz RAM, and CPU-Z indicates it is running at full speed.

Since the processor you swapped in can handle a max of 1600Mhz, The 1866Mhz RAM is not too far fetched.  Unfortunately, if you tried it and it didn't work, then it probably isn't going to happen.  I have new i7-920XM and a Q9000 Core 2 Quad processors(among other parts) sitting here from failed experiments.  It sucks to waste the money to try and fail, but it's still worth it though, as the computers I have built up are a lot of fun.

You interested in selling any of those CPUs?

Re: x775 with 1866mhz ram?!

actually, I might be using the 920XM processor today, depending on how things go.  And I am hoping to find an X305 down the road to swap the C2Q into.
