X505 Q870 Overheating.

I have this laptop for a year and half.
I had overheating issues before but never reached 100.

After a while after BF3 was released.
When i play BF3 i get like few mins before the processor heat gets to 100 and stays at 100 (Probably cause that's the max my heat monitoring software can detect) after a while at 100 it shutsdown and wont start again untill some time passes i guess to wait for the cooldown.

It was not a big problem before because it wont heat up east , now it heats up very fast.

Do you know any possible solution ?

Re: X505 Q870 Overheating.

Clean your fans/vents with compressed air; use short bursts.

If that doesn't help, may need to reapply thermal paste.  If you reapply thermal paste, make sure to get high quality stuff, can really make a difference in temperatures.

Good luck

I agree with alexuw, applying Arctic Silver thermal paste will help bring temps down.  I usually apply fresh thermal paste once a year on all of my computers, as well as cleaning the vents regularly.

So basically , all i have to do is the following.
1)- Cleaning my fans/vents with compressed air; useing short bursts.

2)- Apply new thermal paste recommeneded to be a good type of thermal paste.

Re: X505 Q870 Overheating.

if you are going to open the system up to apply fresh thermal paste, then you wont need to clean the vents with compressed air.  While inside, you can clean the fans and heat sink fins directly, which will be better than doing it from the outside with canned air anyway.

You can get Arctic silver online at a number of places, but I usually just pick it up at a local Radio Shack.  They sell it for $10 a tube, and it has worked very well on all of the computers that I have worked on.  They also sell chemicals to remove old thermal compound.  You wont have to worry about it with the original stuff, it will just wipe off.  But when you decide down the road to apply new arctic silver, you will need the chemicals to clean the old actic silver off.

Re: X505 Q870 Overheating.

I could not find the Arctic silver 5 in any local stores (including Radio Shack)
But i found the MX-4
Is it good ?

Also , i am not going to disassemble the Laptop (I do not want to risk).

I am going to give it to some IT guy (That i trust) in order to do the cleaning.

Any recommendations ?

MX-4 should work fine, it has good reviews.
