You put the body of your message in the "tags" field rather than the normal message body field. To make it easier for anyone reading this, I'll paste what you wrote here:
can someone help me with this error message do i need to replace the hard drive
That is likely, but first, try holding '0' (zero) while starting the computer to see if the recovery utility will load.

I merged your two threads together.
You get the error message when you're attempting to use the recovery discs? What happens if you try the '0'-key method?

I was hoping the recovery would work, but it sounds the hard drive might have failed. Because hard drives have moving parts, they are one of the more common parts to fail. While it's possible than dropping the laptop or jerking it quickly could contribute, it's also very likely that your grandson did nothing wrong. Unless there's something more serious wrong with the laptop as well, replacing the hard drive should fix it. You'd then use the recovery discs with the new hard drive to get it back to work!

I have a Satellite L655 - S5166 x with the same problem. I got the notice that my hard drive was about to crash so I backed it up to my EHD and burnt the repair disc as directed. I installed a new, identical hard drive, turned it on and inserted the repair disc and after a minute I got the ERROR: F3-F100-0003. Any ideas on what's wrong now?

I run a few toshibas L755 -S5306, This issue happens for 2 reasons
Abuse to to the HDD , and i have encountered it when you do the system recovery if you format the whole disk whiping the partition out that has the recovery built in. Now i also have the cds i also bought . Im very disapointed in the fact that i did not abuse the HDD , and yet
i have had to replace 2 HDD because this error comes up during the fresh reinstall...
Iv found a way around this , Iv taken out 2 hdd from diffrent Laptops *** HP*** and whiped them clean at this point it no longer matters and im running my laptops with old hardware . Now i find this to be absoult BS.... I should not have this error when i have the cds that also cost a 30 Us currancy as well as a new hdd costing 50 or more.
Toshiba power supplys iv had to replace 4 times now .
I WILL NOT BE BUYING ANOTHER TOSHIBA . At this point i have spent . 500 Us . And i feel that Toshiba ows any one who is a registered owner of 1 or more . A new laptop . To make up for the replacement parts .
I know for a fact laptops are not ment to have these issues that toshbia's do . They are made to break . So when buying one expect it to crap out just after the 1 year runs out.
