I have a 1 TB TOSHIBA Automatic Backup Portable Drive
http://amzn.com/B008SZWBR4 for reference
A few days ago it stopped working on my Windows XP PC. I plugged it into my Windows 8 laptop and it works almost flawlessly. The drive can only be recognized on my Windows 8 laptop; I have tried Windows 7, Windows XP, Ubuntu all on multiple computers and 3.0 & 2.0 USB ports.
I have set the partition as active, logical, primary, NTFS, FAT32, and all combinations of those using Partition Magic in Windows 8. None of these made the drive show up in device manager or My Computer.
I doubt it is a lack of power issue because it was always working fine then suddenly quit. I have also run multiple ChkDsk and file system read scans and all come back clear and good.
Does anyone have any suggestions for the proper partition setup? Or any other ideas?
