wireless 5ghz

I have a toshiba a505 s6980 and a new wireless dual band router. The router broadcasts in 2.4 and 5ghz. For whatever reason my toshiba will not recognize the 5ghz sig at all! My wifes laptop, which is considerably older will pick it up just fine. I've checked all the settings and should be recieving it! I'm not sure if maybe this particular wireless card will not recieve it or what. Help with this would be much appreciated. :  }

Re: wireless 5ghz

I have a brand new U500 and it has the same problem.  I am guessing that the wifi cards that Toshiba puts in these laptops just does not work on the 5GHz band.  If I had known that, I would have made a different choice...

Re: wireless GHz

Hi,

The network adapter manufacturer for the wireless connection (Realtek) says this card is unable to receive 5 GHz.  Only the 2.4 GHz will work.  I notified Toshiba Tech Support this morning about this finding...

Realtek notified me this morning that this wireless card will not recognize 5 Ghz.   Only 2.4 will work.
