Cannot connect to the Internet over Ethernet or Wi-Fi

If a computer cannot connect to the Internet over both Ethernet and Wi-Fi, there may be a problem in Windows' registry.

Hello,  I just received my Toshiba Satellite Pro C650 laptop and not able to connect to the internet.  This is my first laptop and I'm not too familiar with the lingo.  How do I choose which type of connection I want (LAN/Broadband/Wireless).  I went into control panel/network connections/wireless network connection/properties/general tab to obain a IP address (and to contact my internet provider to provide you the address).  My home and work PC is accessable thru a Linksys router/modem.  How can I connect to the internet and what measures do I need to take.   Thanks.:smileyindifferent:

Hi - Sorry your having trouble. Is your Linksys a wireless router? More than likely you will want to connect wirelessly.

  1. Make sure the wi-fi antenna is switched on first and displays a wireless signal indicator by the clock.
  2. If not visible, turn the wi-fi antenna on by pressing and holding the Fn key on the laptop while pressing the F8 key.
  3. Click on the wireless signal indicator by the clock and it will display the available networks.
  4. Click on the network you want to connect to, click "Connect" and enter the password (and user name if required) you were given for your wireless network (your Linksys router/modem).
  5. You should now connect to your network wirelessly.

Your User's Guide also explains using wi-fi on Page 133 under "Connecting your computer to a newtork" and Page 177 under "Wireless Networking problems". Click here for your Satellite Pro C650 User's Guide
