I have a Qosmio X870 custom with windows 8; during the windows login the touch pad works. When the computer is logged in then the touch pad no longer works. I have reviewed the users manual and found out that the touch pad on and off is Fn+F5 but it doesn't turn it on. The white light on the upper left of touchpad is on ideicating that it's not working.

Please give us the part number when you post here. It looks something like PSPLXU-02M019.

Qosmio X875 (PSPLZU-07X02C)
Essentially the same as this one.
Qosmio X875-Q7390 (PSPLZU-003002)
So the downloads here should work just fine.
When the computer is logged in then the touch pad no longer works.
Let's make an experiment, Linus. Log in with Safe Mode and let us know what happens.
At the Logon screen, clicking Power and then holding down the Shift key while you click Restart, should bring up the Options menu. From there,..
Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart > Startup Settings menu (select #4)

While in Safe Mode, try a System Restore to before the problem arose.
Settings > Power > Shift + Restart > Troubleshoot > Advanced options > System Restore
With a little luck, that will fix things.

PSPLZF I had a similar problem after a Windows 8 Pro installation and I downloaded from Toshiba website the Ticuhpad drivers and now the Touchpad can be swicthed on and off via Fn+F5. But the download took so long for the 128MB file.

I found this thread after having the same issue with my touchpad on my fairly new (~2 months) Qosmio X870 with Windows 8. I did the restore and it fixed it.
However, twice now, it has downloaded a windows update and repeated the error after installing the windows update. I have to go in and restore each time - and thus, lose the any changes made since then that I don't want to lose (for example, install of quicktime, DirecTV App, and several other softwares). It happens after the windows update.
Any idea how to stop this from happening? It is a major pain in the %*$&#.

Heya all, I got same problem on same laptop "win8 -64bit, qosmio x870-13d", nothing helped until I UPGRADED/FLASHED my BIOS from 6.10 to 6.30. System restarted after BIOS update, and everything went back to normal, touchpad working fine.
It will maybe help...

Sorry I got to this thread so late. Hopefully this answer can help someone else in the future to avoid the intricate (and, I am sure, excellent) solutions presented here.
Don't press Fn+F5. Press F5.
(Isn't this machine just a massive dose of daily joy? I'm serious - for me, it handles like a finely-tuned sports car. I also had some major headaches with it - like the SSD failing after just a few weeks of use and taking with it expensive and irreplaceable video sessions. Still, it's one fast, precise, powerful and sleek assistant. Or maybe -shrug- I should go out more and start seeing other laptops.)
