So bought this laptop for a quickie work laptop, and I use the F1-F12 keys a lot (as F1-12) for software at my work. And well this whole having to hit FN to use the keys as needed all the time is maddening.
Looked around, theres not FN-lock on it. Its got windows 8 and I can't find flash cards or any other way to make it so that that comptuer defaults to F keys rather then volume control and such.
So any advice on how to fix this or am I going to tape this button down until the off chance that I ever need to dim my screen?

That's Toshiba's new default.
There is an option in the UEFI (BIOS) to reverse that situation. See the section System Settings on p. 119 of the User's Guide.
In System Settings, look for a Keyboard tab, with choices like these.
Special function mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)
Standard F1-F12 mode (Hold Fn first to use special functions.)
