I am a tech who received this Toshiba Satellite P855-S5312 for repair.
User reported laptop was fine, then suddenly froze, upon reboot screen shows "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".
I accessd bios and reset to default, no issue to access bios. Pulled hard drive and tested and confirmed no issues. Reseated both Ram sticks (also tried with different compatiable sticks). Used a bootable CD and a bootable USD stick, accessed boot menu (F12). does not access the usb stick at all, and seconds later same error message. Optical drive flashes twice, but defintely does not access the disk, then same error message, and, of course does not boot from hard drive (Win 8 installed).
System bios version is 6.60.
Since i can access the bios and make changes, it would appear bios is okay but, it almost appears as bios is corrupted.
I did not attemp to flash bios (I believe there is a 6.70 version).
Would appreciate any ideas/suggestions. And thank you for taking the time to respond.
