Satellite C55-A function keys

Hello,

I have a Toshiba Satellite C55-A, and it appears that the functions keys act as hotkeys and that their default functions cannot be summoned unless you also press the FN key. Given that some of these keys control vital functions, such as wifi on/off, and the dreaded touchpad disable button, this is a huge aggravation.

Here are some solutions I'd like to investigate:

-A function lock, that restores the original use of the function keys, so that I might only disable the touchpad by pressing FN+F5.

-A way to disable some/all of the hotkeys. For instance, if I accidentally press F5 because every computer and laptop that I've ever owned or used refreshes a webpage at this action, I'd rather that key do nothing at all instead of disabling my touchpad.

-Remap the keys through the registry.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thank you for your time.

Yes, you can make that change in the UEFI from within Windows. In System Settings, look for a Keyboard tab, with choices like these.

Special function mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

Always tell us which Satellite C55-A you have when you post here. There is a label on the bottom.

I'm also having some issues with my function keys. I just got a Satellite C55-A5245 and after I finished setting everything up and retrieving backup data ect., the function keys stopped working. I can only use the special functions (FN+F10 to turn volume up, ect.) How do I get the basic controls of my function keys back? I'm using windows 7 home premium

Thank you.

Reinstall the flash cards then , click win start > search > flash cards > ( as far as i know there was an options there where you can set it to default )

Sorry, I'm getting through the same problem.

But I don't know how to access to the system settings that you have shown.

Please show me how to get access to the system settings.

Thank you.

Re: Satellite C55-A function keys on Windows 8

Here is what I did in mine to solve the problem:

1) Hoover your pointer to the right side of screeen

2)Click " Settings" icon

3) Click " Change PC Setting" at the bottom right corner bellow the icons

4) Go to PC and Settings

5) Click EAse of Access

6) Go to Keyboard and turn ON StickyKeys

7) Done!
