Help - My Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 Keeps Locking Up

I am not very computer savvy and I have a Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 that keeps locking up and has to be manually shut down. I was afraid that is got infected with something so I tried to run a full scan (McAfee) on it hits a certain point and also locks up (will not do anything at all). I tried a Anti-Malware scan and it locks up. I tried to run a scan in safe mode and it locked up. I have also tried the system restore and that did not fix it. I do not know what else to do. Is it the laptop? or is it a virus? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Satellite L305-S5894

Next time the hang occurs, note the exact clock time on the computer.

Then open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc), expand Windows Logs, and check the Application and System logs for entries (particularly Error entries) at that exact time

Don't try to manually copy anything from there.

Double-click such an entry and click the Copy button to put its details on your clipboard.

Without editing, paste that into your reply. We need the part only down to where it says Event Xml.

Re: Help - My Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 Keeps Locking Up

First off I would like to thank you Jerry_Lippey for your reply.

I went into the Event Viewer and the Application is full of errors. Is it suppose to be like that? My computer locked up again at 9:20pm and the closest error that I found was at 9:30pm. That is the time that I turned it back on after shutting it down. This error shows up a lot through out the whole log.

Log Name:      Application
Source:        Microsoft-Windows-WMI
Date:          4/11/2009 9:30:10 PM
Event ID:      10
Task Category: None
Level:         Error
Keywords:      Classic
User:          N/A
Computer:      (took name out)

Description:
Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.
Event Xml:

I will continue to use the laptop and the next time it happens I will make sure to record the time and check into the log and report back here. If there is something else I should look for or any thing I should do, please just let me know. Thank you again Jerry!

Not unusual. Nothing to worry about unless things you need don't work right.

Certainly nothing to worry about there. See this Microsoft article.

Event ID 10 is logged in the Application log after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windo...

Keep looking.

Re: Help - My Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 Keeps Locking Up

Hello.  I am having issue with my relatively new Satellite Laptop as well.

The model is L355D-7901.  I have a Firefox and IE 8 installed.  They both will stop responding, sometimes recovering without closing.  I also have Office 2007, Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Standard installed which also stop responding.  I'll assume the Memory is fine since I use a Flash Drive for saving files and an 8G Flash drive for backup/ready boost.  Norton 360 2.0 was the trial software which I purchased and have the Software CD.  This is very frustrating since my previous Toshiba had these issues and made me prepare this time around.  Please help.

Re: Help - My Toshiba Satellite L305-S5894 Keeps Locking Up

Error 1:

Source:        Microsoft-Windows-WMI
Event ID:      10
Task Category: None
Level:         Error

Inconsequential. Just ignore it.

Event ID 10 is logged in the Application log after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or Windo...

Errors 2, 3, 4, and 5:

Source:        EvntAgnt
Event ID:      2019
Task Category: None

Level:         Error

Another bug to ignore.

The SNMP Event Log Extension Agent does not initialize correctly on a computer that is running Windo...

Please leave all the Xml off.

We need the part only down to where it says Event Xml.
