I have a brand=new Toshiba Satellite L875. The dvd player worked fine at first; now it makes a clicking sound when I put in a music dvd. As soon as I remove the dvd all the noise stops.
Also a visuals problem - when typing (I'm seeing it on this message), the letters v and ww are much lighter than others.
What's going on? Thanks....L.

Emmi, as I think you know, your DVD Drive should NOT be making any clicking noises while in use. This is not a software problem, but a hardware one. It sounds like the drive is probably a little out of balance or alignment allowing the disk to barely touch something while revolving. I'm assuming this happens with more than one DVD of course; if that's the case, I would return the machine to where you bought it and ask for an exchange.
As far as some letters lighter than others, I've never heard of such a thing so I have no comment except to confirm that they are all of equal darkness on this end in your message.

Hi - I don't know if you're suggesting I ask to exchange the entire computer or just the disk drive. Staples, where I purchased this, is willing to do either one. It would be much less hassle for me just to replace the disk drive, as that is the part causing the clicking. My computer tech (whose Sunday morning I interruped!) tells me that is what he would do. Is that what you are suggesting? Other than this (except for the odd letter lightness mentioned on a certain kind of font) the computer is running fine. Could this drive problem be an indicator, though, that there will be other problems down the line? Thanks....

Yes, I was suggesting exchange the whole thing because that would have solved your sometime letter lightness also. However, if that really doesn't bother you, I certainly agree with your tech friend that a replacement of the ODD is sufficient. Just because there was something wrong with it doesn't necessarily mean any other problems undeveloped yet.
I was happy to hear Staples was willing to do that for you with no hassle. Good Luck!
