received an used "all cleaned up" toshiba satellite A105-S1013 laptop from a "friend of a friend". has a dvd-rom, went to play a dvd - media player 11 for xp just can't do it. looked into it, discovered some missing drivers. spent way too much time trying to download drivers and purchased a codec pack from roxio "cineplayer dvd pack" for $15 as a cure. no workie. stuck my nose in farther (i can navigate comfortably until i cannot understand the lingo) and discovered in the device manager "? video controller (vga compatible)" - has NO driver (must have been "cleaned up"). tried to find an update driver, but cannot identify the device (video card?) - no name/info under adapter heading.
could someone point me in a different direction to stumble some more? i know there's "updates" out there for all this ancient software/hardware. any help would be greatly appreciated.
just want to watch a dvd movie....

Downloads are here.
If I wanted to keep a machine somebody gave me, I'd restore it to factory new and update from there. You can probably get recovery discs from third-party distributors.
