Computer Troubleshooting

hi all,

i know this is kind of an old story i have seen a lot of post regading this topic. i have tried all the sugestion but nothing is working..

i bought a laptop p500 and it cam with 8gb ram kingston the BIOS and the windows detects it but when i go to system info it say 2.93 usable and true enough i am not able to use more than that though it is is because of the my OS that was home premium windows 7 32b then i ugraded to windows 7 pro 64b but still have the same message 

the RAM is pre supplied by toshiba kingston 4gb 1033 

is there any way or do i need a update or something for me to use my RAMs

In 'System Information', how much 'Installed Physical Memory (RAM)' and 'Total Physical Memory' does it say you have?

in the sytem info its 8GB (2.93 usable), i have 2 x 4gb memory card (RAM) installed

Give us your full model number like Satellite P500-BT2G22, and if yours is not a USA model give us your part number, like PSPGSU-14M002.

Also, please do not abbreviate the data I ask for. On my computer, the 'Installed Physical Memory' is 4.00GB and the 'Total Physical Memory' is 3.96GB. What are the specific numbers of both of these on your computer?

Yours is a Toshiba Australia model. Unfortunately, they seem to have deleted your model's specifications page. I've added a link to the best replacement I could find, and to your models actual Toshiba downloads page.

See this Microsoft article with regard to your problem, and look at the 'Things to try' section:

Usable memory may be less than the installed memory on Windows 7-based computers

You could still try the other suggestions. But, your sysinfo shows you only have BIOS v2.40. The latest BIOS for your system is v2.90. Also, the v.2.60 update specifically corrected the problem you are experiencing.

BIOS v2.90 will include all the previous updates, including v.2.60. So, download this file to your desktop, then restart your computer. After a fresh restart, double click on the BIOS update v.2.90 exe file to install it, and carefully follow the directions.
