Hi,
I just received a L750-BT4N22 Toshiba laptop. Every 10 to 30 minutes when the computer is not in use the hard drive will park itself. I have searched on the internet and some seem to think this is related to the power settings. The only thing I changed was when the computer is plugged in I have it set to "never" go to sleep. Has anyone ever heard of this and what can I do to stop the hard drive from parking itself every so many minutes?
Thanks,
yeto

Go to Control Panel. Click on the Power Options icon. Go to the Advanced Settings. There you should see 'Change plan settings'. Then click on the 'Change advanced power settings'. It will bring up a windows with more options. Scroll down till you find Hard drive. Click on the '+' sign next to the Hard drive and change the settings for the hard drive. It typically defaults to 10 minutes.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I changed the settings to 360 minutes but the hard drive still (parks/or turns on and off very quickly) every ten minutes. It makes a click-click sound. It is not coming from the speakers. It is coming from the drive itself. Would you know of any power settings that Toshiba has installed that might be different versus Windows 7? Would you have any other suggestions that I can try?
I have 4 Toshiba laptops and this is the only one with this problem.
Thanks in advance for any help.

The only way I know to verify that it's not due to software is to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents using Toshiba recovery media.
You would want to image the current contents of the drive so that it could be restored after the test.

I searched on this board and found what I think is the answer.
I went into msconfig> startup> and unchecked PCHM. So far (fingers crossed) this seems to have fixed the problem. What does PCHM do anyway?
Thanks,
yeto

The Toshiba Health Monitor turns the drive off? That would be interesting.
There's a little about that application here.
