Computer won't read battery power level

My Satellite A105-S4001 can no longer read the power level of the battery connected to it; the battery always reads as "Critical," with Total battery power remaining = Unknown.  Computer takes a 10.8V battery; when shopping for a new battery, I mistakenly bought a 14.4V battery with the same form factor as my original and connected it while the computer was on.  The computer wouldn't recognize the new battery; I removed it, saw it was the wrong voltage, and reconnected my original battery.  After that, the computer always reads the battery level as critical/unknown, the battery LED isn't lit when the battery is connected, the computer will only run on battery power for about a minute, and it won't turn on when using only the battery (i.e., no AC adaptor).  I then bought a new 10.8V (the correct model) battery, and get the same response as with the original battery.

Is there any way to restore the computer's ability to read and use a battery correctly?  Help!

Re: Computer won't read battery power level

I already have the latest BIOS.  I downloaded and tried to install the latest BIOS on this site, ACPI Flash BIOS version 6.00.  During the install process, I got a message that "The current system BIOS is the same version (or newer) than the version you are trying to flash, so the BIOS will not be changed."

Is there anything else I can try?
