Hi!
4 days ago I heard static noise coming from my speakers whenever I listen to music or wath a video. Even when I have my headphones on, I can still hear the noise. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen often. Please, help me.

Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop.

Do you need the serial number because I will be more than happy to give it to you. But I don't know what the model number look like. Or are serial number and and model number the same thing?

This article in our Knowledge Base should explain the differences between the numbers and help you identify them.

Try reinstalling the sound driver.
Conexant Audio Driver(v8.54.1.0; 02-23-2011; 42.15M)
If that doesn't fix it, you'll want to figure out if a certain program is causing it.

I guess we shouldn't hope for such an easy fix, hm?
Try using System Restore to restore a previous restore point from before this became an issue.

Hi Nightwing89,
Is the BIOS up to date because BIOS change history for this model mentioned modification of audio output gain.
Also make sure that mic boost is set to zero Start>Control Panel>Sound>Recording Tab>Double-click on Microphone>Recording Tab>Levels.
If you still hear noise during audio playback, set the HDD Protection to a lower level or turn it off:
Start>All Programs>Toshiba>Utilities>HDD Protection Utility.
Help others by replying to the post, thanks.

I set the mic boost to zero. How do I check the BIOS?

In the Start Menu's search field, type "HWSetup." Does HWSetup show up in the results? If it does, run it, and in the "General" tab it should list your BIOS version. You can also run the "Service Station" to see available updates. If your BIOS is out of date, it should be listed there.

I checked the HWSetup and it said I had BIOS Version 1.40. Then, I went to the service station and upgraded to 1.60, but it still makes the static noise.

You only hear the static when your listening to something, right?
Also, you mentioned that you hear it even when using headphones. Does the static come from the headphones as well, or did you mean that you hear the static from the laptop's speakers even when you're using headphones?

Nightwing,
You already performed system restore, reinstalled the driver, set the mic boost to zero, updated the BIOS.
If you also already disabled the HDD Protection and still hear noise, chances are the issue is hardware already.

Static also comes from my headpones aswell. Funny thing is whenever I'm playing game on an emulator, I don't hear static at all.

What type of video or music? Something on your hard drive, or something from the web? What about YouTube?
