I have an DX730 which cam with 8 g of memory upgradable to 12 and I have the extra memory stick but when I

open the memory cover there are the A and B slots but I do not see a place for the additional stick,,,What am I doing wrong? or is there something I am missing?

Your User's Guide pretty thoroughly explains how to add memory.  See page 31 of User's Guide.  There are ONLY 2 slots.  If you want to add memory, one of the slots has to be replaced.

This model desk top model has 8 installed and it was expandable to 12 unless I misunderstood something.

The specifications for your machine also located here says about Memory--Configured with 8GB (Max 16GB).

It is not possible to "add" another stick since there are only two slots.  You must remove a 4G stick and insert an 8G stick.
